Trip to Latvia, July 2008
We travelled to Latvia in July to perform with other international choirs in the Foreign Guest Group Concert in Dome Square in Riga as part of the 23rd Latvian Song and Dance Festival.
Latvia is famous throughout the world for its tradition of singing,
and is often referred to as “The Land that Sings”. In July 2008, more than
35,000 singers and dancers participated in the Festival to an audience of almost 300,000. The song festival has been held every five years for the last 135 years and draws on participants from Latvians from every town and village in Latvia and abroad. View the closing concert:

We participated again this year at the International Choral Festival in Cork during the May bank holiday 2008. We were awarded 3rd place in the National Open Competition for our performance of Bogoroditsye Dyevo by Rachmaninov and Eric Whitacre's With a Lily in your Hand. We were awarded 5th place in the National Competition for Church Music, performing Poulenc's Vinea Mea Electa and Triodion by Arvo Part.

'eL Ve' and Cór Mhaigh Eo in concert
On April 5th 2008, in the Town Hall Theatre Kiltimagh,
we performed in concert with 'eL Ve', a Latvian choir
based in Dublin and directed by Inguna Grietina.
Concert starts at 8.30 pm

We performed at
Ballintubber Abbey on Easter Sunday,
March 23rd at 11.30am to a packed congregation.
Rev Fr Frank Fahey was the celebrant.

We
performed with Castlebar Gospel Choir at a Christmas Choral Celebration in Our Lady's Church, Islandeady on
Friday 7th December 2007.
To
resounding applause, the concert featured
the premier performance of the work
'Praise God (Tallis)/Soon I Will Be Done' (Spiritual) which has been specially arranged for SATB choir and gospel choir by composer, Donal Sarsfield.
Donal is both director of Castlebar Gospel Choir & choir member of Cór Mhaigh Eo.

October 28th: We performed at Sunday Mass to celebrate the 400th
anniversary of the Flight of the Earls in the Cathedral of San Pietro in
Montorio. This Event was hosted by the Pontifical
Irish College, Rome, The Irish Embassy to Italy and the Irish Embassy to
the Holy See.
