Our History Cór Mhaigh Eo, formerly known as Mayo County Choir, was established in 1994, drawing on members from all over the county. The choir concentrated on non-competitive performances of mainly sacred works in the early years. In 2004, former bass Brian Lennon took over as conductor, leading to a change of direction for the choir with a wide repertoire ranging from 15th century choral music to contemporary choral and secular works. The choir was awarded 2nd place in the National section at the Sligo International Choral Festival in 2004 and 3rd in 2005. In 2007 and again in 2008, we were awarded 3rd place in the prestigious National Open Competition at Cork International Choral Festival. Reaching new heights in 2009, we won the National Open Competition with our performances of Whitacre's A Boy and a Girl and Monteverdi's A un Giro Sol de 'l Beggli'occhi. We were also placed a respectable 4th in the Sacred Music competition. We look forward to a return visit this year.
As well as a busy schedule locally, the choir travelled to Scotland in 2005 and to Rome in Oct 2007. We also travelled to Riga for the Latvian Song & Dance Celebrations in July 2008.
